A couple of months ago, I wrote a post about Thrive Market and whether or not the $59.95 membership price was worth it. Personally, I love it, and am on track to save more than $700 this year, ordering only once per month.
For us, the more positive, healthy changes we make in our diet, the more we LOVE Thrive Market and can justify the yearly membership charge.
But that doesn’t mean we’re cooling our heel with regard to reducing our grocery costs.
{How to feed your family for $300 a Month}
In fact, we’re doing just the opposite: we’ve taken on Thrive Market as a challenge to save even MORE money. Sure, we’re already saving 25% – 50% off of in-store/Amazon prices, but why not see how high we can get that percentage? Why NOT 60% – 75%?
You know by now I found some cool ways to save, otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this post, so let’s dive in, shall we?
Utilize Your First Order Coupon (you can do this while still in the 30-day trial period)
If you’re on the fence about Thrive Market, I highly recommend you sign up for a 30-day trial period. During this time you can check out tons of prices, order as many times as you like, and even cancel after a few orders if it isn’t for you (provided you’re under the 30-day deadline).
Don’t be shady about it, but Thrive Market offers the 30-day trial for a reason: they know you’ll love it.
But back to the trial period: When you sign up for a 30-day trial, you’ll automatically get a 15% off coupon applied to your first order. You don’t have to have a special coupon code, it will just automatically be applied to your first order, on top of the savings you’re already reaping. Although EVERYONE I know has had this coupon applied automatically, if you don’t see it on your first order, sent Thrive Market and email and let them know. They have great customer service and will get the error corrected very quickly.
When we placed our first order for $80, we saved $12 with this automatic coupon alone, no paper or electronic coupon codes needed!
Pay Attention To The Confirmation Page after your first order
Once you’ve placed your first order, don’t rush away from the confirmation page!
In most cases, that confirmation page contains ANOTHER coupon code for 10% off your second order. And yes, you can use this code is you’re still within your trial period.
Best. Thing. Ever.
Place Big(ish) Orders
Hear me out on this one, because it’s totally worth your time.
Thrive Market offers automatic free shipping on all orders over $49. They also usually offer you a free gift with orders of $59 or more.
So, by ordering everything you need once or twice a month, and getting your order over $59, not only can you save about $13 in shipping, you can score free goodies like Organic Furniture Polish (I LOVED this freebie), free Kids Snack Cracker packs, and more.
The offers vary from day to day, but nearly every day there is a fun free gift when your order is $59 or more.
Also worth noting is that these freebies are not “samples” but full-size products! In our case, I believe the furniture/glass polish was wroth $8-$9 and the kids packs were worth $6.
How do we do this? Inside my pantry, I have a chalkboard grocery list. Assuming our daughter does’t scribble all over it (a very real possibility) I keep a running list of things that I want to try, that we need, or are almost out of that we order from Thrive Market. Then, once or twice a month I place an order. Easy peasy.
Check RetailMeNot.com
Once you’ve used up your 1st and 2nd order coupon codes, don’t check out without checking RetailMeNot.com. This site is like a database of online and in-store coupon codes, and they have a great section for Thrive Market. Often people will find coupon codes in their email, or have coupon codes given out on their confirmation page that they’re not going to use, so they post them on this free site.
They Have a “Steals” Section
Every online shopping site has a Clearance section, and Thrive Market is no exception. Theirs just happens to be called “Steals”
You can find this section under “Selects” and then “Steals.” This section could contain nearly ANYTHING on a given day, so check back often for the best deals.
Bundled Deals are a thing, too
Also under “Selects” you can find something called Thrive Starter Kits, and there is something here from everyone. Currently, they have the following bundle deals:
- Gluten Free Starter Kit
- Aromatherapy Starter Kit
- Snack Sampler
- Vegan Starter Kit
- Jerky Sampler Kit
- Superfood Smoothie Kit

- New Mom Care Package
- Monthly Thrive Box

As you can see, there is something for everyone in the Thrive Starter kits, whether you’re new to Thrive and want to try some new things, or have specific dietary needs and want to save even more.
Each of these bundles carry and even greater discount than if you were to buy each item individually, so if you’re into any of these diets or interests, then the Thrive Starter Kits can help you save even MORE!
Buy Gift Cards at a discount (coming soon)
Ok, I went ahead and added this one in here, even though you can’t quite use it yet.
Thrive Market offers gift cards, like many other retailers. You can Buy Discount Gift Cards at up to 93% off to other stores through sites like Raise.com, which can save you quite a bit of money by just thinking ahead and purchasing a gift card from someone who didn’t want theirs.
Now, Thrive Market is fairly new on the online store scene, so no one is trying to offload gift cards to Thrive Market just yet….but trust me, Thrive Market is growing rapidly and soon you’ll be able to!
Whether you’re shopping for Thrive Market or other retailer’s gift cards, New Customers! Save $5 off orders $75+ with code RAISE75AF (Ends 5.31.16).
Shop with a 5% cash back credit card
My final tip is one that you need to decide on for yourself: Shop with a credit card like Chase Freedom and earn 5% cash back (when applicable)
Once a year, for an entire quarter, Chase Freedom offers 5% back on groceries – and Thrive Market counts. When this rolls around, we stock up on shelf-stable items we know we’ll use all year. (Plus right now Chase Freedom is offering a $150 cash back bonus!)
And, if Chase Freedom isn’t for you, check out the 1.5% cash back on EVERY purchase offered by the Barclaycard CashFoward World MasterCard.
If you’re new to Thrive Market, you should read my earlier post about how to get started + make the most of the site. Basically, it’s like Costco for healthy food, and with prices that are 25% – 50% less than in store or Amazon prices, it’s easy to see why Thrive Market is growing so fast.
