I am passionate about helping families take back control of their money. The picture you see here on this blog shows that my family and I paid off $24,000 of debt in 2015, that we successfully budget in under 5 minutes, and that consistently save almost 50% of our income. We have an amazing life, which is why I want to help you.
My life wasn’t always this charmed.
In 2013, my husband and I had more than $100,00 of debt in credit cards, auto loans, student loans, and even our mortgage. And even though our income was high enough to pay just the minimum, our out of control discretionary spending.
I remember one time we needed a $100 car repair. To most people, a car repair bill of that size would have been easily handled, but we were drowning so badly in debt that when we check out bank account we couldn’t afford it.
What did we do?
We went out to eat and spent $40 on a meal for two. That’s how badly we were managing our money.
Then we discovered we were pregnant.
I had just graduated college and started working as an accountant. We had no savings and no plan for our future – especially with a new baby in it. Simply put, we were drowning.
Then one day we had enough. We started learning and reading, making small changes, NEVER depriving ourselves. Slowly but surely we paid off all our debt except for our mortgage, started to develop completely passive income streams (which today total $3,000 a month and growing) and are living a life we could only have dreamed was possible.
Today, it is easy to tell you that we feel financially successful. We don’t have large incomes. We don’t deprive ourselves. We DO make smart choices for us and our family that we learned the hard way during 3 years of trial and error, struggles, and paying off massive amounts of debt. We’re also saving pretty darn close to 50% of our income each month.
It took us 3 years to learn these lessons, but I don’t want you to struggle for NEARLY as long as we did.
Our philosophy goes against traditional wisdom. The American consumer mentality would have you “buy it now” and pay for it later, embrace the free access to credit, and view name brands as status symbols. We’re all for great vacations, a beautiful home, and nice cars, because we believe that you can have all of those things while still taking back control of your money. We want to help you learn the strategies that have solidified our marriage, revolutionized our budget, and aggressively save – all while still enjoying the best parts of living.
This journey will be hard.
