Imagine you’re walking the aisles of Costco, but instead of processed, sugary, artificially-colored foods, the shelves are lined with food that not only tastes good, but is good for you.
Products from companies like Annie’s Homegrown, Earth’s Best, Seventh Generation, Garden of Life, Jason Naturals, Spectrum Natural, and so many more.
A warehouse full of foods that are good for you, at wholesale prices (think 25% – 50% lower than grocery store prices) that are great for your wallet.
So lets talk diet: Do you eat Paleo? gluten free? Vegan? Raw? Organic? Non-GMO? A combination?
However you eat, if you’re conscious of what you’re putting in your body, at least give this review a read to see if Thrive Market might make your life easier.
The Membership Cost
Let’s get the awkward stuff out of the way…
The membership cost is $59.95/year.
But….. that is less than $5/month, less than Amazon Prime, and Thrive Market has literally thousands more hard-to-find products (at better prices) than Amazon or your local grocery store.
Does that membership cost seem like a big commitment?
Read on for price comparisons, additional benefits, and try-it-before-you-buy-it offer!
Price Comparison
Could a Thrive Membership actually save you money?
As with everything on this blog, we’re concerned with cost. Sometimes a membership fee is justified because of the cost savings you’ll reap, so we’ll try to lay out costs on some of the most commonly purchased items on Amazon and in grocery stores and how they compare with Thrive Market.
Just like you would determine whether or not an Amazon Prime (or other subscription) is worth it, remember that just because the prices are lower, if you’re not ordering often enough, then the fee may not be worth it for you.
I did a side-by-side comparison of some of the most commonly purchased household items to see how they compared:
Laundry Detergent: The same or price or less than conventional, chemical laundry detergent
Diapers: Organic and/or Chlorine-free diapers are the same price as Pampers or Huggies. They are more expensive than the generic brand, though.
Grass fed beef jerky for less than regular store beef jerky.
Natural Toothpaste, Floss, Deodorant, Mouthwash, etc for less than their regular counterparts at the grocery store or pharmacy.
Some of the products that we order consistently I listed the actual prices below, although you should be aware that prices can vary on Amazon, at the grocery store, and of course at Thrive Market:
Integral Collagen: $14 cheaper than Amazon (you won’t see the $27 price until its back in stock and you add it to your cart, sorry!)
Aminos: Even the non-sale price is less than Amazon!
One last comparison: Stevia Packets
This is my personal shopping list, yours may be very different, so make sure to check prices first!
Thrive Market does not carry everything.
For example, I love my Pressed Peanut Flour.
Basically, it’s like peanut flour but with all the fat pressed out so it still has that amazing peanutty taste, but with almost no fat and 16 grams of protein per 1/4 cup…..yeah, it’s amazing. I’m sure there are other products they don’t carry as well, but the items on my grocery list, save the peanut flour, were all there and much, much cheaper than what I’d been paying for them.
Additional Benefits
Yes, your membership fee gets you low-price benefits, but it also gets you a few other things as well:
Free Shipping
All orders over $49 ship free to anywhere in the continental United States. The average shipping cost for orders under $49 is $5, so even if you have to pay shipping it won’t break you, especially with the savings you’ll be receiving just by ordering through Thrive rather than another retailer.
My first order (the one you saw above, in the price comparison section) shipped within 24 hours because I ordered when the Vital Proteins were in stock. However, it didn’t arrive at my door until 5 days later. Not too bad, except I’ve been living on 2-day shipping for years. I’ve come to love it.
I was pleasantly surprised by the packaging when my products arrived: the glass was cushioned, the Stevia box remained intact, and the Vital Proteins were absolutely fine because they come in a plastic tub.
Philanthropy
Thrive Market is more than a low-cost Costco for health foods, it is committed to giving back to the community.
For each paid membership, Thrive Market donates a free membership to a low-income American family. Think about that: when you pay $59.95 for your membership, you’re essentially paying $30/per membership. One for your and one for a family who really needs it.
It’s called their Thrive Gives Initiative, and it’s more than their business model – is their mission.
Adults, children, and families who live below the poverty line are much likelier to be obese and have health problems, which is why Thrive Market has made the Thrive Gives Initiative a non-negotiable part of their business plan.
When you get a Thrive Membership, you give one, which gives a low-income family not only access to affordable, high-quality food, it gives them more of a chance at a healthier, longer life.
